The Seraphim Rising

Haunting and soulful, The Seraphim Rising are a return to substance. Formed in 2008 in Ojai, California, the band manifests a passionate, hard rock sound with elements of folk, psychedelic and gothic rock that has been described as art rock or rock noir.

Singer/songwriter Attasalina writes primarily from the sub-conscious. Focusing on a range of subjects, from the labyrinthine spell of the psychotic mind in Before I Go to the horror of class division in Raise The Dead, her preferred exploration is revealing the shadow self within.

The Seraphim Rising began when Attasalina teamed up with bass player Matthew Sewell to record some demos. Soon after, they invited long time friend, Sunny Erickson, to join the project. His psychedelic sensibility and unique talent for evoking gut-wrenchingly beautiful sounds from his guitar blended perfectly with Attasalina’s gothic, singer-songwriter style. After hearing some preliminary studio sessions, Gordon Branchaud joined the project and the rhythm section was formed. Gordon’s talent for wreaking sublime havoc on a drum kit was a true inspiration and, no doubt, rooted in his heavy metal background. Gordon’s intensity combined with Matthew’s aggressive yet haunting bass technique evokes a compelling sound stirred with stunning vocals and a down and dirty groove.

The band officially launched in 2009 when they rented a ninety seat theatre and performed a two hour concert to a packed and rather astonished house. By 2010 they were performing regularly in Ojai at local hot spots The Lodge and the Village Jester with the occasional trip down the hill to Ventura or Los Angeles. This led to an invitation by Christopher the Minister to record their first album at the legendary Swing House Studio in Hollywood. In January 2011, they did just that.

That same month, "The Soldiers of Everyday", a single co-written and performed by Attasalina and long time friend Daniel Ash of Bauhaus, Love and Rockets and Tones on Tail was released on iTunes. A vibrantly mysterious music video featuring the two of them was released later that year. The song was also featured along with an interview with Adam Michael Bravin of She Wants Revenge on his radio show "All Those Moments".

The Seraphim Rising released their first single "Raise the Dead" in the Summer of 2011. Most of the Swing House recordings were released on Halloween 2011 as a six song EP entitled "Life In Suspension". The record features four original songs as well as two covers - Venus in Furs of The Velvet Underground and Lucretia, My Reflection of The Sisters of Mercy. Mini tours of Northern and Southern California, Oregon and Washington are in the works for Spring/Summer of 2012 and the band is enjoying the invaluable support and attention of some of the undergrounds most celebrated artists...
